While I’m sure my colleagues will disagree, I'm pretty sure I've chosen the best watches in the studio. I tend to be partial to 60s and 70s inspired designs which definitely shows in my picks. In no particular order, here’s my top 5:
Baltic Tricompax Reverse Panda
A beautifully proportioned racing style chronograph that is an amalgamation of all the best hits of 60s. It combines traits from the Rolex Daytona, Omega Speedmaster and the Universal Compax, creating an incredibly classic design. Some would call it boring, I'd say its quintessential! If you’re looking for a vintage chrono with modern build quality and water resistance, look no further.
Studio Underd0g Steffany Blue
Harkening back to the ‘Dirty Dozen’ watches, the Steffany Blue switches it up with a powdery blue dial and a pop of orange on the hands. The thinner strap also gives the watch a more interesting profile, making its 37mm diameter appear slightly larger. Field watches are not usually known for having prominent lume, but this watch is a clear exception.
Zodiac Sea-Chron Blue
A fantastic reincarnation of their chronograph from the 60s. While it is a chunky piece, the bracelet balances the heavy watch head very well. Zodiac also hasn’t messed with its proportions keeping its dial design very close to the original. A personal favourite feature is that it comes with pump pushers instead of clunky screw-down pushers.
DOXA SUB 200T
Iconic dive watch design trimmed down to a much more comfortable size. Despite significant shrinkage, the dial retains the legibility of DOXA’s larger models. Positioned below the 300 series, you gain access to the excellent cushion case at a more affordable price. All the DOXA benefits with none of the excess.
Furlan Marri Disco Havana
A clear step up from their previous permanent collections, the Disco is a thoroughly modern take on the flying saucer genre. While funny shaped dress watches are certainly on trend at the moment, I reckon the Disco collection is executed so well that it will surpass current trends and establish itself as a modern classic.
