Founded by two Frenchmen who became enamoured with Chinese culture and aesthetics while attending university in the country, the brand partnered with local designers and more importantly, Master Cheng, China’s only guilloché master, to craft their signature collection called the Perception.

A master’s touch

The Perception dial exemplifies Atelier Wen’s pursuit of excellence. Master Cheng, who constructed his own rose engine, handcrafts each intricate guilloché pattern – a process taking up to 8 hours of meticulous work to achieve impeccable quality. Beyond the dial, rhodium-plated hour markers are paired with a chapter ring boasting the traditional hui rectangular spiral pattern. X1 SuperLuminova has been applied to the ring and hands to ensure superior readability, even in low-light conditions.

Drawing inspiration from China’s iconic pagodas, the Atelier Wen Perception lineup incorporates their iconic silhouette into the case design. Crafted from premium 904L steel, known from its refined finish and superior corrosion resistance, the Perception watch case measure 40mm in diameter. Despite its robust construction, the Perception remains exceptionally slim at just 9.4mm, ensuring a sophisticated fit for any wrist. Complementing the design, each Perception watch at Time+Tide comes with a stainless steel bracelet featuring ratcheting clasp, allowing for seamless and precise adjusting. Atelier Wen offers the Perception in various colourways including Salmon, Grey and Ice Blue.

Proudly made in China

Atelier Wen embraces the “Made in China” label with pride, highlighting that every component of its watches is crafted within the country. This includes the slim SL1588 movement from Dandong/Peacock, which operates at 28,800 bhp and delivers a robust 41-hour power reserve. The movement is partially visible through a display case back, which also features a stunning engraving of a traditional Chinese dragon face. Built for durability, the Perception watches offer 100-meter water resistance and feature a screw-down crown.

The bold and the beautiful

Atelier Wen elevates the Perception with its Millésime project, a term borrowed from winemaking to signify vintage-level quality. This experimental and community-driven initiative, known as Perception Mu, retains the exquisite guilloché dial but now showcases a refined purple hue. For the first time, Atelier Wen employs grade 5 titanium for both the watch case and bracelet, offering a lightweight yet durable design. Available for pre-order at Time+Tide, the Millésime features a unique engraving of the brand’s logo on the caseback, filled with traditional Chinese lacquer in purple.
